Starting with a quickly approached underpainting, filled with bold colors and large strokes, I studied the marks to find abstracted, figural content. I selected areas of the underpainting to conserve the spontaneous quality the strokes had, while manipulating the surrounding area to make the figural content more clear. Quiet moments of characters looking away from the viewer induce an abstracted, surreal narrative.
